What's the actual difference between a "mode" and a "corner"?

Mode is about behavior and intent — functional versus test, active versus sleep. Corner is about the physical world the design is sitting in — a slower or faster manufacturing lot, a lower or higher supply voltage, a hotter or colder chip. You can run the same mode across many corners, and you can run the same corner across many modes. A complete timing question always has to specify both: this behavior, under this condition.
